The challenge with the design of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church was to utilize the existing small building for narthex (gathering area), day chapel, sacristy, bathrooms, etc, while adding to it a much larger nave (assembly area) for worship by a community greatly increased since the parish was originally established.
Architect Castillo's bold plan to join a new structure to the old resulted in a beautifully integrated whole, its exterior reflecting many features of traditional southwestern and New Mexican design. As designer of interior sacred environment, Bacigalupa created the Sculptured Wall which firmly delineated narthex from nave and incoporated the Blessed Sacrament Chapel within its curved embrace.
